Dr. Kim, advisor on foreign policy and national security to South Korean President Moon Jae-In’s campaign for president in 2017.

“The Edge of Democracy” Film Screening with filmmaker Petra Costa
On June 13th, the Los Angeles World Affairs Council partnered with Netflix to allow LAWAC Members access to a free screening of “The Edge of Democracy,” an award winning documentary by filmmaker Petra Costa, who was available for a short Q & A session afterwards.
Dr. Larry Diamond on the State of Democracy Around the World
On June 11th, the Los Angeles World Affairs Council hosted Dr. Larry Diamond, an expert in democratic studies and comparative politics at Stanford’s Hoover Institution and Freeman Spogli Institute, to discuss the state of democracy around the world as undemocratic states like China rise in their global influence, once stable democracies trend towards illiberalism or authoritarianism, and “democracy building” is generally seen as shorthand for U.S. military intervention.
