Internships will be 50% remote, 50% in-office, and for current students only. You must receive school credit or sponsored funding to qualify.

LA World Affairs Council & Town Hall Internship Program

The Los Angeles World Affairs Council & Town Hall is a non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to advancing global and civic engagement. As the largest speakers’ forum in Southern California, we deliver a robust slate of programming on local, national, and global affairs in order to promote an enriching dialogue for our members and the public to understand the connection between Los Angeles and the world.

Recent speakers have included Microsoft founder Bill Gates, 2020 presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, former governor of California Jerry Brown, U.S. Senator Tim Scott, and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power.

The LAWACTH Interns will work across our organization to help with event preparation, on-site event support, program research, and operational needs. The intern will develop insight into producing live public programs, as well as nonprofit communications and management. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a strategic mind, strong time management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively. They will be collaborative and someone who thrives in a fast paced, results-oriented environment. This person should be a highly motivated and organized. They should be passionate about global affairs, civic discourse, and educational programming.

Special Events Intern

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attending LAWACTH events and facilitating event implementation
  • Supporting staff in preparation and execution of in-person events
  • General office administration – assist with mailings, data-entry, calendar management
  • Researching and proposing ideas for new programs
  • Researching and conducting outreach to high-level speaker prospects
  • Assisting in the creation of promotional collateral, as well as online and social media content
  • Supporting the LAWACTH operations through finance tasks

QUALIFICATIONS

    • Interest in event and/or nonprofit management
    • Special event experience helpful. Examples: on-campus organizations (sorority, fraternity); community non-profits; other related experience.
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills
    • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Canva a plus
    • Ability to research thoroughly
    • Ability to attend LAWACTH events, including some early mornings and late weekday evenings
    • School credit or sponsored funding required.
