The Los Angeles World Affairs Council & Town Hall regrets the passing of Eli Broad. He died on April 30th, 2021 and his life is commemorated in a Los Angeles Times obituary.
Serving on the Council’s Board for Directors from 1988-2021, Mr. Broad brought his passion for building Los Angeles' civic and cultural life to these thirty-three years of service. Mr. Broad served as Board Chair from 1994-1997.
Under his leadership, LAWAC organized the Los Angeles Global Forum bringing Ambassadors and their spouses representing 48 countries from Washington, DC to Los Angeles for a 3–day event. Community and business leaders met with the foreign diplomats to showcase Los Angeles on the global stage.
In 2003, Mr. Broad was elected Life-Director of the LAWAC Board of Directors. That same year, he was the chair of LAWAC's 50th Anniversary Gala, where he helped the organization host and evening with Secretary-General of the United Nations Kofi Annan and Television Host Larry King.
