Dinner Test

Joseph Wu, Foreign Minister of Taiwan will speak at a LAWAC luncheon on Monday, March 11th, 2019. Minister Wu will discuss Taiwan's potential role in the US Indo-Pacific strategy and the current situation of the Taiwan-US partnership, including the Trump administration’s Free and Open Indo-Pacific strategy. He will discuss Taipei’s leadership in calling for like-minded nations to work together to safeguard freedom and democracy. He will also address the success of President Tsai Ing-wen’s New Southbound Policy, aimed at strengthening cooperation with key players in Southeast Asia, South Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Minister Wu will discuss the history, importance, and future of the Taiwan Relations Act (TRA), enacted 40 years ago to maintain relations with Taiwan after President Jimmy Carter broke formal diplomatic ties with Taiwan and recognized the People’s Republic of China.


Dr. Jaushieh Joseph Wu serves as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan since February, 2018. He held several senior positions in government over the past two decades, including Secretary-Generals to the President and of the National Security Council, and Minister of the Mainland Affairs Council. He also served as Representative to the United States. Dr. Wu held academic position in the National Chengchi University in his early career. A graduate of the National Chengchi University, Dr. Wu earned his Master’s and doctoral degrees in Political Science respectively from University of Missouri-St. Louis and Ohio State University. Dr. Wu is married to Ms. Ru-Yuh Caroline Su. They have one son.
